Our Cooking Campers are learning to cook, inspired by Bible stories and led by Mary, Natalie and others for the week of August 3-7, 2009. Each day the campers heard several Bible stories and made breads, main courses, salads, desserts and snacks from foodstuffs mentioned in Holy Scripture. They prepared and served at the Wednesday morning Community Breakfast of the Giant Killer Strata after the story of David and Goliath and Heavenly Hash. Their end of the week celebration dinner of Cream of Old Testament Stew had ingredients from the story of the Hebrew people wandering in the desert after their Exodus from Egypt. Numbers 11 tells the story: "The people of Israel were whining, 'Why can't we have meat? In Egypt we had cucumbers and melons, leeks and onions and garlic.'" The stew contains leeks, onions and garlic along with lamb and cream. The salad had cucumbers and the dessert included melons. Stayed tuned for the recipes!
